NOT INCLUDED

What isn’t included

A care plan keeps the site you have running well. New work and other people’s fees sit outside it, and we tell you about them before we start.

Ongoing SEO isn’t part of a care plan either. It’s a separate monthly service: see our SEO packages.

  1. New pages and features

Unused edit time doesn’t roll over, and bigger jobs, such as a new page or a new feature, are quoted before we start.

  2. Your domain name

    Domain registration, charged at cost.

  3. Third-party fees

Paid plugins, platform subscriptions and payment processing fees are paid separately.

  4. Wix, Squarespace and Shopify sites

Wix, Squarespace and Shopify sites aren’t eligible, because the platform handles hosting and updates. Edit time for them is quoted per job.

ALREADY ON WORDPRESS

Maintenance for a WordPress site someone else built

We look after WordPress sites we didn’t build, at the same price. We check the site first, so you know what you’re taking on before you pay anything monthly.

  • A free check first

Our free website check looks at 5 things, including speed on a phone, with results back within 48 hours. Request a free website check.

  • A fixed quote for anything that needs fixing

If something needs putting right before we take the site on, you get a fixed quote first. A site that’s already been hacked gets a quoted clean-up before it joins.

  • Then Care, on your current hosting

The site can stay where it’s hosted now. Care then covers everything except the hosting itself, for the same £25/mo.

Read more about our WordPress websites. If the site is beyond patching, our website redesign service rebuilds it and keeps your URLs.

DO YOU NEED ONE?

Do you need a website maintenance plan?

Rule of thumb

  • Nobody will do the updates each monthA care plan
  • You or your team already do themSkip it
  1. A care plan

    • Updates done for you
    • Backups and restores
    • Edit time each month

Not always. A plan earns its keep when the site brings in work and nobody has time for upkeep. A WordPress site needs core, theme and plugin updates every month, or it slows down and becomes a security risk. If your phone rings because of the site, a day offline costs you enquiries.

  2. Skip it

    • Wix, Squarespace or Shopify
    • Updates done in-house
    • A site that rarely changes

You can safely skip it if your site is on Wix, Squarespace or Shopify, because the platform handles hosting and updates. The same goes if someone on your team already does the updates and backups, or if the site rarely changes and you’d rather pay for help when you need it. Not sure where yours stands? HOW IT WORKS

How our website maintenance works

You can start a plan when your new site launches, or move an existing WordPress site across. Questions first? Contact us.

  1. Choose a plan

Care or Care+, monthly. A site we build can go on a plan from launch.

  2. The first check

A WordPress site someone else built gets a free website check first, and a fixed quote for anything that needs fixing.

  3. Every month

Updates go on, backups are kept, and you send us edits. Care+ adds the monthly health report.

  4. If something goes wrong

We’re alerted if the site goes down and act on it during UK working hours (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm). Restores are included.

FAQ

Website maintenance questions

How much does website maintenance cost per month?

With us, £25/mo for Care or £45/mo for Care+, with no VAT added. Most published UK plans for small sites cost £40–£99 a month, usually plus VAT. Both of ours include hosting for sites we build, backups, updates, uptime monitoring and edit time, and you can cancel anytime.

What’s included in a website maintenance plan?

Both plans include hosting and SSL for sites we build, backups, monthly updates, critical security fixes within 2 working days, uptime monitoring, security checks, restores and replies within 1 working day. Care adds 30 minutes of edits a month. Care+ gives you an hour, done within 1 working day, plus a monthly health report.

What’s the difference between maintenance and hosting?

Hosting keeps your site online: it’s the server your site runs on. Maintenance is the work that keeps it healthy, such as updates, backups, security checks, uptime monitoring and edits. Our plans include hosting for sites we build. A WordPress site someone else built can stay on its current hosting, for the same price.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Both plans are monthly and you can cancel anytime. If you leave, you get your site files and the latest backup, so another developer or host can pick the site up where it is. Unused edit time doesn’t roll over, so there’s nothing to use up before you go.

Can you maintain a website someone else built?

Yes, if it’s on WordPress. It starts with a free website check. Anything that needs fixing first gets a fixed quote, and a site that’s already been hacked gets a quoted clean-up. Then Care covers it at the same price, and it can stay on its current hosting. Wix, Squarespace and Shopify sites aren’t eligible.

Does unused edit time roll over?

No, unused edit time doesn’t roll over to the next month. Care includes 30 minutes a month, done within 2 working days, and Care+ an hour, done within 1 working day. Anything bigger, such as a new page or a new feature, is quoted before we start, so you know the price first.

What happens if my website is hacked or goes down?

We monitor your site’s uptime around the clock. If it goes down, we’re alerted and act on it during UK working hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If a site on a care plan is hacked, the clean-up and restore are included, and restoring from a backup when something breaks is included too.

Is VAT added to your prices?

No. CodeKodex isn’t VAT-registered, so no VAT is added to any of our prices. So Care is £25/mo and Care+ £45/mo, and that’s the whole monthly price. Most published UK maintenance plans are priced plus VAT, which adds 20% at the standard rate, so check which a quote shows before you compare.
