Local SEO services in the UK for small businesses

Our local SEO services in the UK get trades, clinics and local firms into the Google Maps results and the web results under them. Plans start at £199 a month, monthly rolling. Expect early movement in about 2 months and steadier gains in 3–6. We fix your Google Business Profile first, because most people see it before they see your website.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

What’s included in our local SEO services

Local SEO helps you show up when someone nearby searches for what you do. Each plan is a fixed list of jobs we do every month, and the monthly report shows what we did and what moved.

It’s one part of our SEO service for small businesses, which also covers technical fixes and content.

  1. Google Business Profile

We set the right main category, add every service you offer, correct your hours and description, and post to the profile every month. For most local searches, the profile is the first thing people see.

  2. Citations with matching details

We list you on relevant UK directories with the same name, phone number and address or service area every time: 5 a month on Local Starter, 10 on Local Growth and Growth Plus.

  3. A review-request routine

From Local Growth, we set up a simple way to ask every happy customer for a Google review after the job, such as a text with a direct link. More reviews can help your local ranking, and they often decide who gets the call.

  4. Local signals on your pages

We fix titles, headings, copy and internal links on up to 5 key pages, so each one targets a single search such as “boiler repair Leeds”. Your name, number and areas match your profile exactly.

  5. One page per real service

Boiler repairs, installs and power flushing each need their own page. One “Services” page listing everything usually ranks for none of it. New pages are quoted at a fixed price before we write them.

  6. Calls and forms tracked

Form submissions and phone-number taps are tracked in GA4, next to your Search Console data. Your monthly report shows the enquiries that came from search, as well as where you rank.

HOW LOCAL SEARCH WORKS

The map pack and the organic results, explained

Search for a plumber on your phone and you’ll usually get two sets of results: a map with a few businesses under it, then the ordinary web results. They rank for different reasons, so we work on both.

  1. The map pack

The map and the business listings under it come from Google Business Profiles. Google says it ranks them on relevance (does your profile match the search), distance (how close you are to the searcher) and prominence (how well known you are, including links and reviews).

    What moves it

    • Main category
    • Services listed
    • Reviews
    • Citations
    • Distance
  2. The organic results

The web results below the map rank pages on your website. They depend on what each page says, how fast it loads on a phone and which sites link to it. A clear page for each service is what earns a place here.

    What moves it

    • Service pages
    • Page titles
    • Speed on a phone
    • Links

Plenty of businesses show in one and not the other. A strong profile with a thin website misses the web results, and a good website with a neglected profile misses the map.

NO SHOPFRONT

Local SEO for service-area businesses

Most trades work from home or a yard, not a shop. Google calls that a service-area business, and the setup is a little different. This is how we handle it.

  • Your address stays hidden

If customers don’t visit you, Google’s guidelines say to hide your address. We set that up and list the towns you cover instead.

  • Areas you actually cover

Google says a service area shouldn’t usually stretch past about 2 hours’ drive from your base. We list the places you travel to, not the whole country.

  • Areas named on your site

Your website should say where you work in plain words, such as “covering Leeds, Wakefield and Harrogate”, on your contact page and in the footer.

  • A real base, or none

PO boxes and virtual offices aren’t eligible for a Business Profile. If home is your only address, we hide it rather than invent another one.

TIMELINE

How long local SEO takes

Expect early movement in about 2 months and steadier gains in 3–6. Busy searches in big towns take longer. Want the detail behind each stage? Our local SEO checklist walks through it week by week.

  1. Weeks 1–2: audit and profile

We check your profile, site, rankings and local competitors, fix the profile basics and set up tracking.

  2. Weeks 2–8: citations and pages

Citations go out every month and your key pages get their local fixes. Profile changes tend to show first.

  3. Months 2–3: first movement

Views and calls from your profile often start to climb. Your monthly report shows where.

  4. Months 3–6: steadier enquiries

Rankings firm up for your main services. The most competitive searches can take longer than 6 months.

STRAIGHT TALK

What we won’t do for local rankings

What we commit to

The work listed in your plan, done every month and reported on.

What we don’t promise

A set position in the map pack. Google decides that, so nobody can guarantee it.

  • Monthly rolling, with 30 days' notice to cancel.
  • There’s no minimum term.
  • The Full SEO audit is a one-off payment.

Some shortcuts break Google’s rules and can get a profile suspended or a site ignored. We won’t:

  • Write or buy fake reviews, or offer customers anything in return for one
  • Set you up with a virtual office or PO box to fake a local address
  • Build near-identical pages for every town you cover
  • Stuff keywords or town names into your business name

The rules we follow are Google’s own: the Business Profile guidelines and the spam policies for Search, which count city pages that funnel visitors to one place as doorway abuse.

FAQ

Local SEO questions

How much do local SEO services cost in the UK?

With us, local SEO costs £199/mo on Local Starter, £349/mo on Local Growth or £549/mo on Growth Plus. Every plan is monthly rolling with 30 days’ notice and a monthly report. Not ready for a monthly plan? The Full SEO audit is £149 one-off, and the free website check costs nothing.

How long does local SEO take to work?

Expect early movement in about 2 months and steadier gains in 3 to 6. Google Business Profile and citation fixes usually show first, because Google picks them up quickly. Rankings for busy searches in big towns take longer. Our plans are monthly rolling, so you can judge the results before you commit to more.

What’s the difference between local SEO and regular SEO?

Local SEO targets searches where Google expects a nearby business, such as “electrician” typed in Leeds or “dentist near me”. It leans on your Google Business Profile, citations and reviews. Regular SEO targets searches from anywhere in the country, and relies more on content, site structure and links.

Do I need local SEO if I already have a Google Business Profile?

Yes, if you want the profile to rank. Most profiles are set up once and left alone. The wrong main category, missing services, no posts and only a handful of reviews keep a profile out of the map pack. Local SEO keeps it active and backs it up with citations and a website that says the same thing.

How do I get into the Google map pack?

Google ranks the map pack on relevance, distance and prominence. Choose the right main category, list every service, keep your name, number and areas identical everywhere, collect reviews steadily, and make sure your website backs up your profile. You can’t change how far you are from the searcher, so the rest has to be right.

Can I do local SEO without a shop or office address?

Yes. Most trades are service-area businesses. Google asks you to hide your address if customers don’t visit you there and to list the areas you cover instead, within about 2 hours’ drive. You can still appear in the map pack for searches near you. A virtual office used as a fake local address isn’t eligible.

Do you make a page for every town I cover?

No. We build one strong page per service and name the areas you cover in plain words across the site. Google’s spam policies count city pages that funnel visitors to one place as doorway abuse. If a town has real local work to show, such as a branch or a set of finished jobs, we’ll quote a page for it.

Can I do local SEO myself?

Yes, if you can give it a few hours a month. Start with your Google Business Profile, then your citations, then a page for each service. Our guide to SEO for tradesmen sets out the steps in order. Paying someone makes sense when the work keeps slipping to the bottom of your list.
