Web Development Built for Speed, Scale & Search
We’re a web development agency for UK small businesses, startups and trades. We build custom websites, online shops and web apps with server-side rendering, edge caching, automated tests and CI/CD set up from day one. Your pages load fast on a phone, and every change is tested before it goes live.

Trusted by growth-focused teams
Custom web development is for the jobs a standard website can’t do: selling online, connecting the systems you already use, or giving customers and staff tools that don’t exist off the shelf. We build around how your business works, so you aren’t bending your processes to fit a template. On The Gift Sip, for example, we built a Next.js store that pulls products from Printify and sends each paid order straight back to it.
Fast, maintainable sites on Next.js, WordPress or a headless CMS. Your team updates the content themselves, without calling a developer.
Online shops with payments, delivery rules and product data that stays in sync. Our E-commerce package starts from £1,500 for up to 50 products; see the package. Larger or more complex stores are scoped and quoted individually.
We connect your CRM, bookings, payments, email and fulfilment with error handling and logging, so a failed sync shows up for us before your customers notice it.
Customer portals, staff tools, logins and custom back-end logic, built, tested and monitored like production software. Once customers rely on it every day, that’s what it is.
Rule of thumb
A website package
For most small businesses, a website package is enough. If you want a straightforward site that explains your services and brings in enquiries, a fixed-price package from £400 is the better fit, and the Starter site is usually live in around 2 weeks. See our website design for small businesses and the website packages.
Custom web development
You need a web development company when the site has to do something a standard site can’t, such as run an online shop, connect to your systems or let customers log in. We scope each of those projects individually and confirm the price in a fixed-scope proposal before any code is written. You don’t pay by the hour, and the invoice matches the proposal. Bespoke projects (custom AI, web development and SEO projects): 50% upfront and 50% on completion up to £5,000; above £5,000, 40% upfront, then 30% and 30% at agreed milestones.
Somewhere in between? Most projects are. A short scoping call tells us both whether you need a package or a custom build, and what it will cost.

Targets we build to
Performance scores on core templates
SSR/ISR with an edge caching strategy
Monitored releases with Sentry alerting
WCAG 2.1 AA across core journeys
Scope, architecture, KPIs and tracking agreed. Your first preview deploy goes live, so you’re clicking through real code instead of looking at slides.
Regular progress updates (weekly demos if you’d like them). CMS, CRM, bookings and payments wired in with telemetry from day one.
Core Web Vitals green, accessibility pass, zero-downtime deploy and a runbook handed over to your team.
Index coverage, rankings and conversions improve as you iterate on real data, and each round of SEO work builds on the last.

Why websites fail usually has little to do with design. Here are the four problems that stop visitors getting in touch, and how to fix each one without rebuilding everything.
21 min readReadOur website packages start at £400, paid 50% upfront, 50% on launch. E-commerce development starts from £1,500 for up to 50 products, and larger stores are scoped individually. Custom web development, such as web apps, portals and integrations, is quoted at a fixed scope with the price confirmed in writing before work starts. Bespoke projects (custom AI, web development and SEO projects): 50% upfront and 50% on completion up to £5,000; above £5,000, 40% upfront, then 30% and 30% at agreed milestones. No VAT added.
A package website takes from around 2 weeks (Starter) to 4–6 weeks (Growth), and e-commerce builds start at 4 weeks. Custom web development usually takes 6–10 weeks from discovery to release, depending on scope and integrations. We confirm your timeline in the proposal, before any work starts.
Yes. The repositories live under your organisation, and all source files and assets are transferred to you at completion. Nothing is locked to us, so if you later bring in another developer or agency, they can pick up the code and carry on without asking our permission.
Technical SEO is part of every build: schema, sitemaps, canonicals, clean URLs and fast pages. If you want ongoing rankings work after launch, our monthly SEO packages pick up from there. Each one includes a monthly report, and they’re monthly rolling with 30 days’ notice to cancel.
Every preview deploy is checked with automated Playwright and Jest tests, WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility checks, Core Web Vitals budgets and cross-browser QA. Problems show up while we’re building, when they’re cheap to fix, instead of in a rush the week before launch.
Either way works. We set up CI/CD and deploy to your own infrastructure, often Vercel or Cloudflare, so long-term hosting stays your choice. If you’d rather hand it off, our Care plan (£25/mo) covers hosting, SSL, backups and updates, and it’s monthly, so you can cancel anytime.
Whichever fits how your team already works. We use Sanity or Strapi when you want a headless CMS, WordPress when your editors already know it, and Shopify or WooCommerce for e-commerce development. If you’re not sure, we’ll talk it through in discovery and recommend one.
Yes. We connect CRMs, email, payments, bookings, GA4, Sentry and more, with proper environment and secrets handling so API keys never leak. On The Gift Sip we connected Printify and PayPal, with webhooks tracking each order through production and shipping.
Custom builds include a 30-day stabilisation window. On packages, Business includes 30 days’ support and Growth 60 days. After that, care plans from £25/mo keep your site updated, or we can quote optimisation and new features at a fixed scope.
